About

Urban design and nature

As an Architect and Urban Planner with over 12 years of international experience, I specialize in integrating environmental, water, and ecological approaches into urban planning and design. My career and research are deeply rooted in the belief that sustainable urban solutions must be aligned with the wisdom of environmental care. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Urbanism at ETSAB - UPC, focusing on the intersection between water, cities, and territories, striving for urban planning that respects and revitalizes our natural ecosystems.

Core Methods and Services

My work combines innovative research with practical design solutions, always with a focus on ecological sustainability. The following methods define my consultancy and research approach:

  • Research through Design: I explore and test urban and landscape concepts by integrating research directly into design practices, creating solutions grounded in ecological science.

  • Space Analysis Modeling: Using advanced spatial analysis tools to understand the interactions between urban and natural systems.

  • Participatory Designs: I develop projects that integrate the interactions between biological and social diversity, promoting a collaborative process that reflects the needs of both ecosystems and communities.

  • Nature Activism: Promoting ecological awareness and activism in urban design, advocating for policies and designs that prioritize environmental justice and biodiversity.

Design Concepts Exploration

My design philosophy is centered on the coherence between knowledge and environmental care. The concepts I explore include:

  • Eco Dependencies: Understanding the interconnectedness of natural systems and urban environments.

  • Biodiversity Processes: Integrating ecological principles to promote biodiversity in urban landscapes.

  • Water Management Design: Creating solutions that harmonize with water cycles, focusing on water conservation and restoration.

  • Socio-Ecological Restoration: Merging social and ecological considerations to regenerate urban spaces.

  • Local Knowledge Design: Utilizing indigenous and local knowledge to drive culturally relevant design solutions.

  • Urban Agroecology: Promoting edible landscapes and integrating agriculture into urban environments.

  • Mobility and Corridors for Life: Designing urban spaces that enhance mobility while protecting natural ecosystems and promoting corridors for wildlife.

International Experience

I have worked on projects across Colombia, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, gaining a diverse perspective on how landscapes can be regenerated from social, environmental, and economic viewpoints. I believe that landscape design is a dynamic process of constant transition and regeneration, requiring a multidisciplinary approach that involves listening, understanding, and actively participating.

My Vision

I am passionate about creating urban environments that are not only functional but also thrive in harmony with nature. My goal is to foster urban ecosystems that are resilient, equitable, and deeply rooted in environmental stewardship, ultimately shaping cities where people and nature coexist sustainably.

Let’s work together to design urban spaces that prioritize ecological integrity and social equity, while embracing the evolving nature of our environments.
